Hair Tips & Tricks

Let me start by saying I am in no way a hair expert. I spent years treating my hair like what I did would never have any long term effects. I used at home hair dye kits that lead me to a horrible clown orange color (shocking since I was trying to go dirty blonde) and then upgraded to cheap hair salons that fried my hair with bleach. To make matters even worse I didn’t protect my hair from heat or try any repair options to reverse any damage. My hair was falling out like crazy and it scared me.

I knew that if I wanted to fix my hair I needed to invest time and money into repairing it. I started with taking hair supplements and buying a few quality products. Now my hair is 183692146x better than it was a year or two ago. Below is a breakdown of all my favorite hair care products – I hope one of them will help your hair too!

Sugarbear Hair Supplements

These hair vitamins are made with biotin, folic acid, and Vitamin D to promote hair growth. They taste amazing and come in a woman’s multi vitamin now if you want an all-in-one!

Wet Brush

It actually feels weird to use any other brush now that I’ve been using the Wet Brush for a few months. It doesn’t tug at your hair like other brushes do which causes less damage and breakage! I’ve noticed a huge decrease in the amount of hair in my brush. I keep this one in the shower to brush my hair when I have conditioner in it too!

IGK Dry Shampoo & Heat Protectant Spray

I use heat on my hair now more than ever so having a good heat protectant is the key to healthy hair. I spray it on before drying or curling – it’s even infused with proteins for your hair. I’m also trying to train my hair to go longer in between washes which means a lot of dry shampoo days. I just started using the First Class Charcoal Detox dry shampoo and think it works great!

Slip Hair Scrunchies

When I got my extensions I was determined to take care of them so I finally broke down and bought these silk hair scrunchies. I am not disappointed. Now they’re the only scrunchies I will use because I’m confident they aren’t damaging my hair.

Sleek’e Hair Wrap

Do not put a normal towel on your wet hair! A bath towel is very damaging to hair. I loveee these hair wraps, they’re so soft! I tried a bunch of different microfiber hair wraps and they don’t even compare to the Sleek’e ones.

Silk Pillowcases

Changing your pillowcase is such an easy way to reduce damage to your hair. Cotton pillowcases are rough on hair. Before I started using these silk pillowcases I had a ton of breakage on the back of my head. I wasn’t ready to buy the name brand ones ($89)  so I searched on amazon and found a 2 pack for $30! Silk pillowcases are also great for your skin (bonus!).

Kristen Ess Styling Tools

Affordable, work great, can buy at target – need I say more? I use the compact dryer to save on storage and the 1″ curling iron  for my curls.

Opalex No6 Bond Smoother

Opalex is very popular and there’s good reason for it! I rub this one into my damp hair roots after I shower and seriously loveee the smell. It helps repair dead ends and makes it very easy to brush through.

It’s A 10 Miracle Hair Mask

The title doesn’t lie, it works miracles! I use this once a week for a good deep conditioning treatment.

MATRIX Length Goals Shampoo & Conditioner

I started using these when I got my extensions (they are made for hair extensions but can be used on any hair!). They smell great, are sulfate free and gently cleanse your hair.
