Resort Review : Hyatt Zilara Cancun

Cancun is one of my favorite destinations to escape the cold and long New England winters. You can always find an affordable flight, the beaches are clean with gorgeous turquoise water, and the average temperature is in the 80s. There are so many resorts in Cancun to choose from but this one is by far my new favorite!

The Hyatt Zilara Cancun is an adults only, all-inclusive resort on the widest stretch of beach in Cancun’s famous hotel zone. It has 310 luxury suites (all with a view of the Caribbean sea), daily activities/fitness classes, 6 restaurants (+ a craft cocktail bar), and enough daybeds for everyone to lounge comfortably in the sun.

I arrived with high expectations after reading some of the 11,000 reviews on TripAdvisor, but Hyatt Zilara still surpassed the many 5 star ratings in my opinion. The positive energy of the staff from our initial check-in to our final goodbye was unparalleled, the aesthetic of the resort was clean and classy, and there was a perfect mix of fun activities and relaxation time. I would highly recommend checking this place out for your next vacation!

Our Room

We were so impressed with our room! We stayed in an “Ocean Front Junior Suite” which was very spacious. I loved the jacuzzi tub next to the balcony so you can relax & still see the sea. My mom thoroughly enjoyed the hammock on the balcony – she said it was the perfect spot for morning coffee & a little reading. Plus having the bathroom with a separate shower/toilet area was great for our mother-daughter trip.

I saved a full room tour video to my Instagram profile (linked here) if you want to check it out!

The Food/Drinks

Asiana: Gourmet Asian with sushi and hibachi options. We ate here our first night and thought the food was delicious and the presentation was beautiful! I also loved the incredible flute player – she had the perfect mix of new pop songs & the classics my mom could enjoy too.

Cantina La Adelita/Maria Marie: A tequila bar that transitions into Mexican fine dining at 6pm. Especially loved the flaming crème brulee and the Mexican traditional music trio, Tres Marias.

Punta Vista: Greek restaurant situated between the pool and overlooking the beach (bottom right photo). We had breakfast, lunch, and dinner here during our stay. The open air dining + view of the beach can’t be beat. I got the tuna quinoa salad and fried broccoli for lunch every day – I wish I could have it right now. There’s also a swim up bar here!

Spice: The hotels main buffet, we had breakfast here one morning and thought everything was cooked to perfection. I especially liked the smoothie counter where you can curate your own morning smoothie!

Casa del Café: The coffee shop (pictured bottom left) which makes coffee’s to order, has pastries and sandwiches ready for a quick bite, and delicious ice cream!

Time Out: The late night bar with karaoke, pool tables/games, and dancing.

The Den: The craft cocktail bar – honestly the best cocktails I’ve ever had! The Kiwi Sapphire was my favorite and my mom loved the Coconut Cane Mai Thai.

Lobby Bar: We got drinks here during the nighttime shows. I loved the mojitos & pina colada’s!

Room Service: We ordered room service for breakfast on our last morning while we were packing. It came hot and they laid everything out on our balcony table so we could eat outside & enjoy the view.

Premium Private Dining (pictured top left): This is a private, reservation only dinner option on the beach. Perfect for a romantic evening / celebrating an event.

The Property & Staff

Location: With the hotel being in the heart of Cancun’s hotel zone, it’s a quick 22min drive from Cancun’s international airport. You can get a taxi for about $25 or the hotel can arrange transportation for you.

Pool: I loved the pool here! It stretches *almost* the entire length of the resort and has enough space for everyone. I found there was a “party” side where the crowd was younger, the pool party/trivia was held, and the volleyball net was. There was also a “quieter” side with a perfect view of the ocean and the crowd seemed to relax in their groups.

Beach: The resort is on the widest stretch of beach in the hotel zone. There’s a ton of daybeds so you don’t have to worry about waking up early to find one and there’s beach chair options if you’d prefer that! I splurged for one of the double decker cabanas and thought it was the most relaxing day I had.

Zen SPA: I couldn’t pass up spending a morning at the spa here. I tried the hydrotherapy circuit which I thought detoxed and relaxed my muscles before I went for an amazing massage. I also made my own lotion in the new Alchemy Lab classes!

Gym: The gym here has a great assortment of equipment and matches the resorts aesthetic of looking classy chic. There’s also an olympic size infinity lap pool overlooking the bay (picture bottom right).

Staff: I could go on & on about the staff here! They are EXCEPTIONAL. Always so friendly and striving to go above and beyond to make sure you’re having the best time possible. Ivan at the beach cabanas will clean your sunglasses for you, Thomas will make sure you’re having fun by the pool with trivia games and at the pool parties, and my mom loved the bracelets Charlie made with her (we have matching ones thanks to him!).

Activities/Amenities

Zen Spa: The spa has a new addition called the alchemy Lab where you can a create your own facial mask, cream or fragrance.

Fitness Classes: Morning classes in the gazebo overlooking the ocean (bottom left), water aerobic classes in the pool, and there’s a full gym that has classes throughout the day too!

Daily Pool Activities: Pool parties, trivia, volleyball, bracelet making (my moms favorite), aqua fitness classes, salsa dancing… always something to stay entertained! Make sure you don’t miss out on the Tuesday pool party, it was so much fun!

Nightly entertainment: I looked forward to these performances every night. We saw a group of tenor’s and a few acrobatic performers. The shows were about an hour long and it was a great way to end your night ~ or have a few drinks before you head to the Karaoke/DJ at the Time Out bar.
